What Do You Mean By CPR?

CPR: – Likewise everyone, you might be aware of the fact that CPR is an acronym for “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation” – a process that increases the survival chances of cardiac arrest victims.

But have you ever thought about what CPR means? In a nutshell, you know that a responsible bystander applies CPR to an endangered victim. He performs his job with a hope to keep the level of blood circulation and oxygen as normal as possible.

A bystander can do chest compressions and breaths in order to survive a person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest. Now, let’s breakdown what CPR really means, word by word:

Cardio: – Cardio means heart – the muscle inside the chest cavity which pumps blood by contracting and expanding over 60 times per a minute. The electric impulses keep the body alive automatically through the heart.

The main function of the heart is to pump oxygenated blood from the lungs to the remaining part of the body. So when the heart stops functioning, oxygen can’t reach throughout the body.

As a result, the important organs start breaking down instantly. Within a matter of a few minutes, the tissues die – which can cause brain damage, or even worse condition, death.

Pulmonary: – Pulmonary means the lungs. Generally, the human takes around 15-25 breaths per minute. So, every time you take a breath, your lungs fill with oxygen – which is very important for functionality.

After all, oxygen is must to keep your body up and going. The issues in your body don’t store much oxygen, and therefore oxygen should be restored constantly. But when a person collapses suddenly, the tissues won’t get sufficient amount of oxygen.

Resuscitation: – Resuscitation means “Restoration of life of someone who appears to be dead”. As soon as your heart stops functioning, your lungs won’t get oxygen necessarily.

When oxygen runs out completely, the tissues and cells start dying including the brain death. However, the average time length when a cell starts to die is around four to six minutes. After 10 minutes, the revival is not possible.

Final Thought –

With CPR, you would be only able to stand helplessly like other bystanders near you – even when your near and dear one dies. But using CPR can give you a hope of recovering and living a person.

Therefore, just step in and administer lifesaving techniques like CPR and AED as soon as possible. No matter what, doing CPR is one of the greatest gifts you can give to anyone – maybe your loved one or some strangers.

To give CPR with speed and confidence, you should take CPR First Aid Certification. This is why CPR Professor provides safety training classes including AED First Aid Certification to know how an Automatic External Defibrillator works on sudden cardiac arrest victims.
